Fellows Spotlight | MaKensey Koontz

The fellowship experience through Circle City Fellows gives Fellows a structured environment to learn about how their work is meaningful to the Mission of God and to the flourishing of the City of Indianapolis (and beyond). During nine months, Fellows create deep connections with their peers, focus on building spiritual and professional practices, and create tangible ways in which they can impact their place of work.

MaKensey grew up on a duck farm in Northern Indiana. Though she’s now a city-dweller, she maintains a love of nature and the outdoors. She has a goal to visit every national park, and she’s been collecting houseplants since she was a teen.

These days, MaKensey works as a housing director for 91 Place, a local nonprofit that serves teenagers living with housing insecurity. Her schedule can be inconsistent, but she loves the company culture and the meaningful work she gets to do.

It was MaKensey’s boss, Abby, who suggested she join Circle City Fellows this year. She jumped in headfirst. Here’s some of what she said about why she’s chosen to participate this year:

Why are you interested in being a Fellow with CCF?

I am interested in the network of growth and support. I’m relatively new to Indy and would love to expand my community and opportunity to experience new ideas and be spurred on in the work I do.

What do you hope to gain from the program?

Growth. I’m looking to learn, encounter new ideas, and build relationships with peers.

"By the end of the Fellowship, I hope to..."

Have gained useful tools to excel in my next journey.

Our mission is to help adults of faith come to see how their work matters to God and is an important part of Indianapolis’ flourishing. We’re so happy to have MaKensey as part of our fellowship class this year!
