Fellows Spotlight | Elisa Vicini

The fellowship experience through Circle City Fellows gives Fellows a structured environment to learn about how their work is meaningful to the Mission of God and to the flourishing of the City of Indianapolis (and beyond). During nine months, Fellows create deep connections with their peers, focus on building spiritual and professional practices, and create tangible ways in which they can impact their place of work. HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENCE WITH CCF?

A friend of mine did the fellowship last year. I saw how much she learned and grew through it, and I wanted that same growth for me.

I DECIDED TO DO THE CCF FELLOWSHIP BECAUSE...

I felt a disconnect between my work and serving God. I wasn’t sure how the two went together, and my day to day work did not seem like ministry whatsoever. I wanted to see the purpose in what I’m doing.

CCF EXISTS TO HELP YOUNG PROFESSIONALS SEE HOW THEIR WORK MATTERS TO GOD AND HOW IT IS IMPORTANT TO HIS MISSION FOR THE WORLD. IS THIS SOMETHING YOUR FAMILY OR CHURCH TAUGHT YOU GROWING UP?

Yes and no. I always heard Colossians 3:23. “Work for the Lord and not man.” So, I knew that we were supposed to do everything in our life with excellence, because we are doing it for God. But I didn’t know anything beyond that. Beyond “do a good job for the sake of doing a good job” essentially.

IN YOUR CURRENT WORK, (WHETHER THAT BE WORKING FULL TIME/PART TIME, GOING TO SCHOOL, OR RAISING CHILDREN) HOW DO YOU SEE THE MISSION OF GOD AT WORK?

It is difficult to see at times. My job is very administrative. Lots of Employment Verifications and paperwork. But I am learning to see the mission of God within the mundane tasks. How the little things I do can take stress off someone else. Or how the events I run can bring joy to employees and make their work experience better and help them feel appreciated.

THE FELLOWSHIP CONSISTS OF READING ARTICLES, PARTICIPATING IN COHORT DISCUSSIONS, MONTHLY SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES, ATTENDING SATURDAY FORUMS THAT FOCUS ON THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS, AND A COUPLE OF PROJECTS THAT WILL GROW YOU IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL LIFE. WHICH OF THESE ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AND WHY?

I am looking forward to all of them, but mostly the Saturday forums. We have already learned a bit about the history of the city, and I am excited to learn more about the challenges and needs, and what we can do to help. There seem to be a lot of tangible next steps that we can take now.

BY THE END OF THE FELLOWSHIP, I HOPE TO HAVE…

A better understanding of why God put me on earth and what mission he has for me. I also hope to have a clear vision for my next steps to be “salt and light” at work as well as in my neighborhood and the city of Indianapolis.
